Title

Why Is there a Flashing Alarm Light on the EBC30?

Problem

The EBC30 shows a flashing alarm light.

Solution

With the priority function enabled if an alarm occurs in which we cannot create sufficient draft, we will go into a full alarm. (Solid light and closed alarm contacts on 33&34). Once returning from that alarm, only the auxiliary input with the highest priority will be allowed on, and for every minute that we are not in an alarm; another appliance will be allowed to fire until we have achieved N-1 of the amount of appliances we had when we first went into an alarm. Once returning from an alarm, a flashing alarm light (priority function indicator) will continue but the contacts on 33&34 remain open. The final appliance will only fire once another of the appliance stops asking to call. If another alarm occurs and restores it becomes N-2, N-3 and so on. Keep in mind, that when the alarm light is flashing, the contacts for alarm remain open so the building is not notified.

For example:

  1. 5 appliances, all calling, and all 5 aux outputs are closed while maintaining setpoint
  2. Setpoint times out and alarm occurs. Contacts 33&34 close, alarm indicator on.
  3. Fan regulates setpoint, alarm removed. Replaced with flashing priority function indicator on alarm light. All appliances are still trying to call but only aux 1 out will close.
  4. One minute later, aux 2 closes
  5. One minute later, aux 3 closes
  6.  One minute later, aux 4 closes
  7. Aux 5 will not close as per the N-1 rule. Now, only four appliance will be allowed to light and aux out 5 will have to wait until one of the first four release their call for it to have permission to fire.
  8. If the alarm is created again, then it will move to an N-2 rule, and only 3 appliances will be allowed at one time.
